War Service 1861 Capt. of infantry in Confederate army and Lt. Col. of
1st Kentucky, October 1861 Col., Peninsula campaign, command of brigade
under Kirby Smith in Tennessee, November 1862 Brig. Gen., at Vicksburg
was Pemberton's provost marshal (surrendered), paroled after a short time,
commanded Dist. of South Mississippi and East Louisiana, served as provost
marshal to S D Lee, commanded forces at Mobile.
Post War Career Businessman, deputy US marshal, chief of police.
Note It appears that President Davis did not nominate him to the Senate
as Brig. Gen..

Note Wounded 7 times including at Williamsburg, Gettysburg, and Dinwiddie

Allen

Pre-War Profession Lawyer, planter.
War Service 1861 organised an infantry battalion - Maj., May 1862 9th
Louisiana, Chickasaw Bluffs, Vicksburg (surrendered), paroled quickly,
reported to President Davis on the surrender, assigned to Trans Mississippi
to collect parolees, February 1864 Brig. Gen., assigned to command a brigade
in Taylor's Dept., commanded Polignac's division when he left for Europe.
Post War Career Planter, professor, US consul in Venezuela.
Note Brother-in-law of CS General Richard Taylor.

Post War Career Planter, office in federal Land Dept, office in Indian
Bureau.
Note Was considered for divisional command when Pender was wounded, but
passed over because of state sensibilities.

Pre-War Profession Graduated West Point 1836 (46th), resigned that year,
railroad construction engineer, Mexican War, Capt. in Maryland militia.
War Service October 1861 Brig. Gen., inspected Forts Henry and Donelson,
reported their unreadiness, Fort Henry (surrendered), commanded Tilghman’s
Bde/Loring's Divn at Corinth, Holly Springs, Vicksburg campaign, Champion's
Hill (k).

TOOMBS,
Robert Augustus "Bob"

Died 15 December 1885, Washington GA
Pre-War Profession Lawyer, politician, land owner, US congressman, US
senator.
War Service 1861 Confederate secretary of state, resigned, Confederate
congressman, July 1861 Brig. Gen., commanded Toombs’ Bde/D R Jones'
Divn in Seven Days, Second Manassas, Sharpsburg (w), 1863 resigned commission,
opposed Sherman with Georgia militia.
Post War Career Fled abroad, returned to US, politician.
Note Father-in-law of CS General Dudley McIver DuBose. Never asked for
a pardon, and was thus denied elected office.

War Service May 1861 Pvt in Columbus Guards (became part of 20th North
Carolina), 1st Lt., Capt., Seven Pines, Seven Days, South Mountain, Fredericksburg,
February 1863 Col., Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run, Wilderness,
Spotsylvania, May 1864 Brig. Gen., commanded Toon’s Bde/R D Johnston's
Divn in Early's Washington raid, reverted to the rank of Colonel to command
20th North Carolina, Shenandoah Valley campaign, Petersburg, Fort Stedman
(w), incapacitated.
Post War Career Superintendent of public instruction.
Note Wounded 7 times including Petersburg, Spotsylvania, and Fort Stedman.

chief of ordnance ensured that the state was well-armed.
War Service 1861 engineer-in-chief of Morris Is. defences, Capt. then
Maj. on Beauregard's staff, October 1861 Brig. Gen. in command of Dept.
of Middle and Eastern Florida, divisional command under A S Johnston,
Corinth, relieved of command, commanded Dept. of South Carolina, administrative
duties in South Carolina.

TRIMBLE,
Isaac Ridgeway

1832, engineer and railroad superintendent.
War Service 1861 destroyed bridges north of Baltimore, May 1861 Col. of
engineers in Virginia state forces, August 1861 Brig. Gen., commanded
Trimble’s Bde/Ewell's Divn in Shenandoah Valley campaign, Seven
Days, Cedar Mountain, Second Manassas (w), attached as aide to Ewell in
Gettysburg campaign, given command of Pender's division at Gettysburg
(w,c), not exchanged until February 1865 (meanwhile having been promoted
to Maj. Gen. to rank from January 1863) but was unable to rejoin the army
before its surrender.
Post War Career Consulting engineer.

of Dist. of Southern Mississippi and East Louisiana.

David Emanuel

Pre-War Profession Commissioned in US army in 1812, War of 1812, Mexican
War, command of Dept of Texas,
surrendered to Col. McCulloch of Texas, dismissed from US Army March 1861.
War Service May 1861 Maj. Gen. in Provisional Confederate army,
command of District of Louisiana but was never active in that post, died
of old age.
